Cortes Community Radio Society
About CKTZ
CKTZ 89.5 FM “Cortes Radio” is the flagship project of the Cortes Community Radio Society.
Starting out as a pirate station that put the freak in frequency and broadcasting at 80 watts from a height of 400 feet above sea level, CKTZ was officially licensed by the CRTC in October of 2011.
We are the Discovery Island’s community radio station, with listeners on Cortes, Quadra, Savary, Hernando, Maurelle, Reed, and across to Refuge Cove, over to Lund on the Sunshine Coast, and stretching south from Campbell River to Merville on Vancouver Island.
We broadcast 24-7 and produce about 100 hours per week of original programming (including repeats), with fabulous DJs playing an eclectic mix of music, as well as news, weather, and community announcements. We produce, record and broadcast live performances through our Live & Local program. CKTZ is proud to be part of the regional Emergency Communications Team.
About Tideline
Cortesisland.com was co-created by Irene Blueth and Richard Trueman ( www.richardtrueman.com ) in the Summer of 1999. Except for the Discussion Forum and the Calendar of Events Forum, Irene and Richard were be the only “reporters” of events. Since 2001, Richard has been the Chief Editor and at that time the site was cosmetically updated.
In 2003, he saw Barry Saxifrage’s vision of a “true” community website; -a site where all the readers could be contributers to all parts and pages of the newspaper like format. Barry called this the “Tideline”, a place that is always in change. We combined forces and the site became “cortesisland.com Tideline”.
2 Years later, Tideline 2005, a new improved version was coded by Barry Saxifrage of Stonebreaker Designs. Richard Trueman was the editor until 2010 when he decided it was time to retire.
In June 2010 Ester Strijbos took over from Richard Trueman. On September 1st, 2024 Ester handed the Tideline over to the Cortes Community Radio.
The Cortes Island Community Foundation is proud to partner with Cortes Community Radio in managing Tideline into the future and they are committed to the long term sustainability of what we all believe is an essential community asset.
Our site is FREE, however, we gratefully accept donations to pay the bills. Want to support us? Click HERE to make a donation.
